To ensure Sci-Fi Con 18 remains a safe, fun, and immersive experience for everyone, we ask that participants stick to some basic rules and etiquette.
The Prime Directive: Respect
The foundation of our convention is mutual respect. Whether you are a Starfleet officer, a wasteland survivor, or a Victorian time-traveler, remember that there is a real person behind every avatar.
- Harassment: We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, hate speech, or bullying.
- Consent: Always ask before engaging in intensive role-play or using scripts that affect another person’s avatar.
2. Script & Complexity Limits
Virtual space is shared space. To keep the regions running smoothly for everyone:
- Watch Your Weight: Keep your Avatar Complexity and script memory as low as possible. If a volunteer or crew member asks you to “lighten your load” to help with lag, please do so promptly.
- No Auto-Spammers: Boothers and visitors should disable any objects that “shout” text or hand out landmarks/folders automatically to passersby.
Immersion and “The Vibe”
While we celebrate “Sci-Fi Through the Eras,” we are still a General to Moderate rated event supporting Team Fox.
- Keep it PG-13: Ensure your outfits and gestures are appropriate for a public charity event.
- No Combat Scripts: Unless it is a designated demonstration, please keep weapons sheathed and combat scripts turned off.
Resolving Conflicts
If a problem arises, don’t let it ruin your flight:
- De-escalate: If a situation is getting heated, step away or mute the individual.
- Contact Security: If an individual is violating these rules, look for help in the Sci-Fi Con chat group.Sci-Fi Con crew members are empowered to mediate and, if necessary, remove disruptive users.
By following these simple guidelines, we ensure that the only thing “exploding” at the Con are the spectacular visuals and the generosity of our donors.
